How to change your name on the passport card?
Generally, most people opt for changing their name after marriage or maiden name.
To change the name on your passport to your married name, you must submit your civil marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate.
On the other hand, if your previous passport was issued in your married name and you want your new passport issued in your maiden name, you must submit:
- Your birth certificate
- Your judicial separation court order
- Your separation agreement or your divorce decree or you’ll have to submit 2 official documents that show that you have been using your maiden name for the past 2 years.
If you have changed your name for any other reason, you will be required to submit documents that show you have been continually using the name for the past 2 years.
A 6 months usage proof may be accepted in the case where you are known by your Irish name but do not possess proof that you have been continually using it for 2 years
How to incorporate gender recognition in Irish Passport Card?
After receiving a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) from the Department of Social Protection, you are required to submit it along with your re-issued birth certificate (after gender recognition).
In case you are not eligible for a GRC, you are required to provide documentary evidence of having been using the new name continually for at least 2 years. You are also required to give a Statutory Declaration stating that you intend to live in the new gender for the rest of your life.
