You can apply for temporary “employee / worker” residence permit if you are a foreigner and you come to France to work as an employee. It allows you to stay in France and exercise a professional activity. It will include the mention “employee” if you have a permanent contract (CDI) or “temporary worker” if you have a fixed-term contract (CDD).
Who can obtain this temporary residence permit?
There are several conditions to be fulfilled when requesting this type of residence permit:
- You are a foreigner and come to France to work as a legal employee;
- You are not entitled to a residence permit for personal or family reasons;
- A work permit;
- A long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS) temporary worker if you are admitted for the first time to stay in France.
What are the steps to obtain “employee / worker” residence permit?
If you live abroad, your employer must apply for your work permit before you enter France. Then, you will need to apply for a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS). You must validate your residence permit within 3 months once you have arrive in France.
You can start working as soon as you have arrived in France.
The documents to be provided:
- Long-stay visa,
- Passport,
- Birth certificate,
- If you are married: extract of marriage certificate,
- If you have children: extracts of the birth certificate of your children with filiation,
- A document that shows proof of address dated less than 3 months,
- 3 photos,
- Work authorization corresponding to the position held;
- Employment certificate issued by your employer (or copy of the last 3 payslips);
- Medical certificate issued by the Ofii – you will need to initiate process by sending “Formulaire de Demande d’Attestation OFII” (medical certificate is requested when handing over the card);
- Proof of payment for document stamp tax (requested when handing over the card).
The price of this card is 225 € per tax stamp. If your application is accepted, you must withdraw your residence permit from the nearest prefecture.
The card is valid for 1 year.
